He is having more than 26 years experience on Research & Development, extension, development of agrotechnologies, processing and commercialization of aromatic plants. He is one of the important pillars to develop Aromatic sector in Uttarakhand state. Furthermore, he played an important role when the state's government established the Centre for Aromatic Plant (CAP) in Selaqui in the year 2002. CAP motivates 18,000 farmers for the cultivation of aromatic crops in, 7200 ha. area of the Uttarakhand state. Most of these lands were abandoned and not in use before this innovation. Under this process,109 aroma clusters have been developed in which 178 field distillation units are working. Uttarakhand's state had Rs. 2 crore turnovers in the year 2002. Due to Dr. Chauhan and his team sincere effort, this turnover reached at the level of Rs. 70 crore per year in the year 2018-19. This achievement is because of the marketing strategy adopted by the CAP under his leadership. He is also being successful of creating a revolving fund of Rs. 117 lakhs for the farmer to buyback of aromatic produce at minimum support price (MSP). His visionary approach and devotion to this sector resulted that Government of Uttarakhand is declaring MSP of 23 essential oils every financial year which is providing very good price to the farmers for their aromatic produce.
